Adobe Lightroom Now Available on Arm Devices with Native Support for M1 Chip

In a significant development, Adobe has released a native version of its popular photo editing app, Lightroom, for Arm-powered macOS and Windows computers, including those equipped with Apple's M1 chip. 'We rebuilt Lightroom to take advantage of the newest performance and power efficiency benefits of the Apple M1 and Qualcomm Snapdragon (for Windows 10) processors,' said Sharad Mangalick, principal product manager for photography at Adobe, in a blog post announcing the news. 'I'm excited to announce that the latest version of Adobe Lightroom is now a native app for both Apple M1 and Windows Arm platforms.'

The new version of Lightroom also introduces several new features, including the ability to select Cloud Documents to store locally and access offline. Users can also bookmark, rename, and save their documents permanently, with versions available for up to 60 days.

In addition to these enhancements, Adobe has also announced two major updates for Photoshop on the iPad: Cloud Documents Version History and the ability to work on Cloud Documents while offline. These features will allow users to access and edit their documents more easily and conveniently.

According to Adobe's internal tests, the new version of Lightroom is significantly faster than its predecessor, with a wide range of features running an average of 1.5 times the speed of similarly configured previous generation systems. Opening and saving files, running filters, and compute-heavy operations like Content-Aware Fill and Select Subject are all noticeably faster.

The performance improvements are not limited to just Lightroom, as Apple's M1-processor-based MacBooks have been optimized for better performance across various apps and software. Adobe has also announced that it will continue to work with Apple to further optimize its apps for the M1 chip in the future.
